To improve efficiency, the U.S. Embassy and Consulates in India have centralized visa processing as follows:

- For a fee (INR 1,200 per application): At any of the six Document Dropoff Centers in Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chandigarh, Cochin, Jalandhar, or Pune.

Visa Rescheduling Policy (Effective January 1, 2025)
- First appointment: You can schedule your nonimmigrant visa interview at any location.
- Rescheduling:
- One-time reschedule allowed for free.
- Missed or second reschedule: You must repay the visa fee and book a new appointment.
- Why the change? To reduce wait times and ensure fairness in scheduling.

DS-160 Online Visa Application Guidelines
- Ensure DS-160 form is correctly completed before booking an appointment.

- Booked on or after November 15, 2023? Bring both the original and corrected DS-160 confirmation pages.
- If you don’t have the original DS-160 confirmation page? Cancel and reschedule your appointment.

- Reason: Your browser may have plug-ins or extensions designed for robotic automation.
- Solution:
- Remove automation tools from your browser.
- Wait at least 24 hours before trying again.
- Avoid: Using automation tools, as it may result in being blocked again.

Emergency Student Visa Appointments
- Eligibility:
- Your program starts within 60 days.
- No regular visa appointments available at the U.S. Embassy/Consulates in India.
- Student Visa Appointment Availability:

- November – December (For January start dates)
- Outside these periods: Very limited slots; deferring enrollment may be necessary.
- Emergency requests are only approved in exceptional cases.
- Documents required:
- Original Form I-20 or DS-2019 showing a program start date within 60 days.
📌 Note: If your student visa was refused in the past year, you are NOT eligible for an emergency appointment.
Fraud Prevention in Student Visa Applications (Effective November 27, 2023)
- All F, M, and J visa applicants must use their own passport details to create a profile and schedule an appointment.

- What to do if your passport was recently renewed, lost, or stolen?
- Bring a photocopy or other proof of the old passport number.
